The Project

DRIFT Linux is a project created by Massimiliano Dal Cero, born as a personal side project and as a spin-off inspired by Tsurugi Linux, which remains the main project and to which Massimiliano continues to actively contribute.

DRIFT takes shape from the desire to have a focused and flexible tool, suited to the needs of incident response and digital forensics and, more broadly, capable of supporting cyber activities in an extensive way. The idea behind the project is to build an environment that prioritizes usability, pragmatism, smoothness of use, and adaptability, without losing sight of technical solidity and design coherence.

Its shared roots with Tsurugi Linux remain an important part of its identity. The two projects share a common vision, technical sensitivity, and part of the path that led to their creation. Although they currently follow parallel yet closely related paths, the connection remains alive, and it is not excluded that in the future the DRIFT project may converge with Tsurugi Linux on certain aspects, ideas, or evolutionary directions.

DRIFT was not created in opposition to Tsurugi Linux, but as a complementary space for experimentation, synthesis, and development. It is a project aimed at testing technical choices, operational workflows, and practical solutions, with the goal of providing a useful tool in the field, especially during the phases of acquisition, triage, and initial analysis of digital evidence.

Alongside its valuable relationship with Tsurugi Linux, one of the project's goals is to remain open to the community. Ideas, suggestions, feedback, and contributions are considered an integral part of its growth. At the same time, DRIFT is also open to partnerships, sponsorships, and collaborations that may support its development over time, without altering its original spirit.

DRIFT is therefore, at the same time, a personal project, a technical laboratory, and an initiative open to evolution. A project born from concrete experience and a clear vision, but one that aims to grow in an open, pragmatic, and useful way for those who work every day in the world of digital investigations and incident response.
